The interaction of solar oscillations with magnetic fields

We will discuss the use of simple (uniform field) models to study the mechanics of helioseismic waves in strong magnetic flux concentrations like sunspots. These models are very useful because they retain many of the important physical ingredients such as gravitational stratification and field inclination, and the resultant wave equations can be solved semi-analytically. As such, the results from these models can be utilised for testing the results from numerical simulations and for gaining insights into the local helioseismology of sunspots.
